Biography
YUI began writing poems in ninth grade. At the age of sixteen, by recommendation of her mother, she began studying songs, songwriting and guitar-playing at a private music school in her hometown Fukuoka.Even though she often feels uncomfortable when talking to people and is shy, she still enjoys communicating with her audiences at street performances in the Tenjin district of Fukuoka. In March 2004 she sang three songs for her auditions hosted by Sony Music Japan. All judges gave her the highest scores possible and made all recording label wanting to sign her. Songs Yui sang at audition were "Why me", "It's Happy Line" and I know as her third song. While leaving her hometown Fukuoka, Yui wrote the song I feel my soul as a tribute. On Feb. 23 her first major release of the album"Feel my Soul" sold more than 100,000 copies. Yui released her debut album From Me to You which made the charts of selling more than 200,000 copies. Her major album "Cant buy my love" has sold over 500,00 copies. On June 17, 2006, titled Taiyou No Uta-Midnight Sun, Yui's fifth single "Good-bye day" was written for Taiyou No Uta and is her highest selling single at 200,000 copies. Yui's 7th single "Rolling Star" was chosen by the anime series Bleach to be the 5th opening theme song.
YUI began writing her own lyrics to his songs while in grade 3 junior high. YUI really aspires to be a singer, and went everywhere by always carrying his guitar. During high school, she often witnessed the band performing on the streets Bianco nero, and decided to quit school. YUI began to learn singing, writing songs and playing guitar in music lessons Fukuoka city.
While cross-legged on a mattress, YUI plays her guitar and wrote the first song entitled "Why me". After that, she began singing on the sidewalk in the area of Tenjin, Fukuoka as the opening attraction for friends of the course of music. Wow,thats great huh?In March 2004, YUI auditioned "SD Audition" held by Sony Music Japan. To be a winner in this audition, is not an easy thing. Of the 20 thousand participants only 10 people left including YUI.

YUI's debut single, "Feel My Soul" which was released on February 23, 2006 used as the theme song for the drama series "Fukigen na Gene. Serial dramas are decorated YUI songs, like "Feel My Soul" and "It's Happy Line".
Single "Feel My Soul" sold over 100 thousand pieces, but three subsequent singles, "Tomorrow's Way", "Life", and "Tokyo" was not as successful as "Feel My Soul." After releasing 4 singles, YUI's first album, entitled "From Me to You" was released on February 22, 2006 selling over 200 thousand pieces. Wow!
Meanwhile, YUI did not seem satisfied if the only work in the music world. YUI eventually try acting by starring in a film titled Midnight Sun (Taiyou no Uta). The film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival 2006 and was released in Japan on June 17, 2006. Single to-5, "Good-bye Days" was written specifically for the film Midnight Sun. Because The Popularity of YUI singles that were previously re-raised after single-6, "I Remember You" was released!
"Rolling Star" is a single to YUI-7 which is used as the opening theme of the 5th anime series Bleach. Singles-3, "LIFE" is also used as the ending theme of the 5th series of the same anime. In addition, mobile television advertising service KDDI "au Listen Mobile Service" using the single-8 Yui, "CHE.R.RY" as the theme song. Meanwhile, the second album entitled "Can't Buy My Love" which was released on April 4, 2007 topped the Oricon album charts for 2 consecutive weeks, and sold more than 500,000 copies!

"I'll Be" was chosen for the commercial song of Sony Walkman NW-S638FK Series and its promotion campaign named, "Play You".[3] Yui did a school live in Omiya Koryo High School in Saitama Prefecture, Japan with the orchestra of the school for this campaign. The footage of this event was released in her next single, Again Limited Edition. Later, "I'll be" was again released as an orchestra mix version. Yui filmed another commercial for Sony Walkman with this live event. This school live was aired on NTV program Dare Mo Shiranai Nakeru Uta (誰も知らない泣ける歌 Unknown songs that can make you cry) on 18 February 2009. The message for this campaign is "Itsudatte tonari de utau yo. Ongaku ga areba hitotsu ni nareru ne" (いつだって となりで 歌うよ。 音楽が あれば 一つに 慣れる ね。) which mean in English "I will always sing next to you. If there is music, we can all become one."
